AURORA, Colo.—Two members of the Colorado Air National Guard who were struck by lightning have been released from the hospital.

Authorities say the airmen were hit by the same lightning bolt Wednesday while they working on the runway at Buckley Air Force Base in Aurora.

Staff Sgt. Brian Nelson and Airman 1st Class Chad Thrane of the 140th Maintenance Squadron were on duty when they were struck.

Both stayed overnight at a hospital.

Air Force Maj. Elena O’Bryan says the men will likely return to full duty soon. She declined to discuss their medical conditions.

O’Bryan says Nelson and Thrane were getting ready to leave the runway after a warning about a thunderstorm headed their way, but the lightning struck quickly.
