LONDON — Prime Minister David Cameron announced Wednesday that Britain will withdraw 500 troops from Afghanistan by the end of next year.
Speaking to the House of Commons, Cameron said: “This decision is not only right for Britain, it is right for Afghanistan too. It has given the Afghans a clear deadline against which to plan, and it has injected a sense of urgency into their efforts.”
Britain has the second-largest contingent in Afghanistan, with more than 9,500 troops, based largely in the southern Helmand province.
