DENVER—The owner of a Colorado Springs auto shop says he wants to challenge $76,000 in fines proposed by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration over 18 alleged safety and health violations.

OSHA alleges mechanics at Springs Transmission and Automotive were exposed to a vehicle lift that didn’t work properly. It also alleges nine repeat violations for hazards that inspectors say they also found last year concerning chemical handling, improper electrical systems, unstable storage of materials and improper machine guarding.

Shop owner Greg Ehnes said Thursday that the company addressed the citations from last year but that some equipment wore out.

The business also was cited with improper fire control during welding operations, inadequate personal protective equipment, a broken garage door and deficient record keeping and first-aid supplies.
