DENVER—Gov. John Hickenlooper has named an attorney for Qwest Corp. as the new executive director of the state Department of Revenue.

Hickenlooper announced Thursday that Barbara Brohl will head the department that includes the state Tax Division and Division of Motor Vehicles. The Gaming, Tobacco and Alcoholic divisions are also in the Revenue Department.

Brohl has worked at Qwest and its predecessor US West since 1983. She was corporate counsel for the Denver-based telecommunications company since 2003.

Hickenlooper says Brohl developed legal strategy and direction for the regulatory affairs in a 23-state territory. She was elected to the Regional Transportation District Board in 2005.
