A woman’s car collided with a school bus full of children this afternoon.

Ten children were transported to three different area hospitals and the woman had to be extricated fom the wreckage of her car.

All children have been treated and released from the hospitals..

The accident happened just before 4 p.m. at the intersection of Iliff Avenue and Emporia Street in Denver, said Lt. Phil Champagne, a spokesman for the Denver Fire Department.

The school bus was carrying 33 children, Champagne said.

Kristy Armstrong, a spokeswoman for Denver Public Schools, confirmed that the school bus, was a DPS bus that had just picked up the students from Kent Denver School, at Colorado Boulevard and Quincy Avenue. The school serves students in grades 6 through 12.

Armstrong said the children’s families have been notified, and all other children were taken home.

The woman, described to be in her 20s, was also transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officer Vicki Ferrari, acting as a spokeswoman for Denver Police Department, said the intersection where the accident happened remains closed early this evening for the investigation.

It is still unclear who was at fault in the accident, Ferrari said.
