ASPEN, Colo.—The editor-in-chief of The Atlantic magazine is due in traffic court after his arrest in Aspen on suspicion of driving under the influence.
A police report says 45-year-old James Bennet was arrested July 2. The Aspen Daily News reports he was in town helping orchestrate the annual Aspen Ideas Festival, which his magazine co-founded. Bennet declined to comment to the newspaper Thursday.
Police say his vehicle had its bright headlights on when it was pulled over. Bennet allegedly said he was unfamiliar with the car because it was a rental and that he had had one drink that night.
Bennet was released to a sober party. He is due in traffic court Aug. 23.
Bennet is the brother of U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet of Colorado.
