COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—The El Paso County Republican Party secretary who publicly condemned a health care bill by a top statehouse Republican from Monument is keeping her post.

Party secretary Sarah Anderson had caused an uproar by criticizing a bill by House Majority Leader Amy Stephens to create a health insurance marketplace. County Party Chairman Eli Bremer had said Anderson should step down if she wouldn’t back the party. The party’s executive committee doesn’t have the power to fire her.

The Gazette reports the county GOP’s executive committee met behind closed doors for more than three hours Thursday night to discuss Anderson. Afterward, they indicated only that Anderson was remaining as secretary.

More than 40 Republicans went to the county GOP’s headquarters Thursday night to support Anderson.
