TORONTO — Will Power will defend his title at today’s Honda Indy Toronto from the pole position.
Power posted a lap of 59.577 seconds on the 1.75-mile road course at Exhibition Place. Scott Dixon will start second after turning a lap of 59.665 and Dario Franchitti is in the third position, clocking 59.900 in qualifying Saturday.
Alex Tagliani of Lachenaie, Quebec, was the top Canadian and will start in ninth place. Danica Patrick will start from the 21st spot.
Franchitti leads the IndyCar championship with 303 points, 20 more than his rival Power and 73 more than Dixon.
Anderson tops pro stock qualifying
JOLIET, Ill. — Defending pro stock champion Greg Anderson captured his first No. 1 qualifying position of the season at the Route 66 NHRA Nationals, ending a drought of 43 races without a top spot.
Spencer Massey (top fuel), Mike Neff (funny car) and Hector Arana Jr. (pro stock motorcycle) also will lead their categories into today’s eliminations.
Webber on F1 pole
SILVERSTONE, England — Red Bull driver Mark Webber edged out teammate Sebastian Vettel in qualifying for the second time this season to secure the pole for the British Grand Prix.
