For all golfers out there who have ever wanted to snap a club in half, or break it on the ground, you are not alone.
Veteran LPGA standout Juli Inkster, frustrated after a three-putt bogey Saturday, took her anger out on her putter and broke it in disgust. The outburst came on No. 1, her 10th hole of the second round.
It may have made her feel better, but it forced Inkster to finish her last eight holes putting with a wedge. That didn’t seem to matter. She did not have a three- putt the rest of the way.
In fact, Inkster one-putted the next hole, No. 2, for a birdie.
She had another one-putt on No. 9 to finish her 32nd U.S. Women’s Open, but bogeys on Nos. 4 and 7 led to her 8-over-par finish. She missed the cut by one shot.
“So, making the cut would have been a bonus,” said Inkster, the 1999 and 2002 U.S. Open champion.
