CASTLE ROCK, Colo.—The Douglas County coroner says she made a mistake when she threatened to release information in a murder case unless the sheriff gave her and her staff access to a gym and vending machine.
Douglas County Sheriff Dave Weaver says coroner Lora Thomas may have jeopardized the capture of suspects after she released news that the victims died of sharp force injuries, despite pleas by sheriff’s investigators to not include those details.
Sheriff’s investigators didn’t want Thomas to release the cause of death. Thomas offered to delete that information if she and her staff were granted access to the sheriff’s gym and vending machines, according to KMGH-TV.
Robert Rafferty and his sister-in-law, Amara Wells, were found dead last February in Rafferty’s home.
