Tanner Ottenbreit, a three-sport All-Colorado pick his senior season, has been named to the under-19 U.S. lacrosse team along with Kent Denver’s Matt Florence.
Ottenbreit, a recent graduate of Regis Jesuit who will continue his career at Virginia, was one of six defensemen to make the 23-man roster. Florence, a midfielder, is one of four members of the class of 2012 on the team. The roster was gleaned from 123 players who tried out in seven sessions over four days at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County.
The squad will compete in the 2012 Federation of International Lacrosse U19 Men’s World Championships in Turku, Finland.
“I think that the competitiveness and level of talent at the tryouts was a gauntlet that the players who made the team had to survive and show their absolute best,” said Tim Flynn, the head coach of the U.S. men’s U19 team. “Because of that, the team assembled is one that is tough, diverse and talented.”
