A stormy July kept pace today as thunderstorms and lightning rumbled through the metro area for the fifth day in a row.

After drenching some areas of the city and causing lighting in the southern region, the storm has moved out leaving a 10 percent chance of more rain before midnight, according to the National Weather Service.

Tomorrow, however, could be a repeat of the past few days, with a 60 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms.

This afternoon, lightning delayed flights for up to 30 minutes at Denver International Airport.

Lightning has been cited as the probable cause of a fire that heavily damaged a home in Lone Tree this afternoon.

No one was home when the bolt hit the home at 7537 LeBrun Court at 5:14 p.m., according to the South Metro Fire Rescue Authority.

“There was a severe thunderstorm in the area at the time and neighbors reported seeing a huge flash of lightning before the fire was discovered,” the fire department said in a media release.

All of western Colorado is under a flood warning or flood watch through Tuesday night, because of “heavy monsoonal moisture” in recent days, according to the National Weather Service.

Widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected Tuesday in western Colorado.

Denver normally receives about 0.66 inches of rain by this point in July, but so far this year some parts of the metro area have received more than 4 inches, according to weather records.
