A Fort Carson soldier arrested this week on suspicion of child abuse told investigators that he threw a bottle at his 8-month-old son to get the child to stop crying, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by the Gazette.

Spec. Daniel Sheffield, 24, of the 43rd Sustainment Brigade called a Colorado Springs police detective Tuesday morning to confess he lied to investigators twice about his son’s injuries, the affidavit said.

Sheffield and his wife had taken their 8-month-old son to Evans Army Community Hospital on Monday. Doctors diagnosed him with a skull fracture and a subdural hematoma, the Gazette reported. The child was transferred to Memorial Hospital and was released Tuesday.
