The massive thunderstorm that rolled through Denver and other parts of Colorado on Tuesday night caused some local flooding, power outages and delays at the airport.

Xcel Energy said about 10,000 customers lost power because of weather-related “sustained outages” Tuesday night. This morning about 85 percent of the outages had been restored and the utility expects to fully restore service later today.

At Denver International Airport arriving and departing flights were delayed by the storm, some up to 45 minutes. The storm rattled the airport between 9 and 10 p.m., but no flights had to be diverted in the extreme weather, an airport spokeswoman said.

Street flooding occurred in Denver, including portions of East 17th Avenue just south of City Park.

The west side of the metro area was hit hardest last night, with parts of Arvada recording 1.46 inches of rain and southern Jefferson County receiving 1.38 inches, said Frank Benton, a meteorologist and spokesman with the National Weather Service in Boulder.

Central Elbert County on the eastern plains was hardest hit by the storm, with some areas there recording up to 4 inches of rain. Areas around Kiowa and Elizabeth were hit with heavy hail.
