Stricker holed a 25-foot birdie putt from off the 18th green Sunday to win the John Deere Classic for the third consecutive year. Stricker, 44, finished at 22-under. Also the Memorial winner last month, Stricker has 11 PGA Tour victories — seven in the past three seasons. “Golf is a cycle,” Stricker said, “and you’ve just got to wait it out.” British bookies have him at 35-1 odds to win the Open this weekend. The past two years he played the John Deere before heading over to the Open, he tied for 52nd in 2009 at Turnberry and tied for 55th at St. Andrews last year.
