A kayaker was found dead in the Blue River in Summit County this afternoon.
The cause of death, however, is not yet known, said Summit County coroner Joanne Richardson in an e-mail.
The man was found south of the Columbine Landing boating site on the lower Blue River along Colorado Highway 9.
Richardson referred to the area as “the Pipeline.”
She said some rafters pulled the man out, a few minutes after he was seen kayaking. He was wearing a helmet.
The man has not been positively identified at 5:15 p.m., and an autopsy will determine the cause of death, she said.
She did not expect the man’s name to be released until after his family is notified, until Friday.
“We suspect drowning but cannot rule out a medical event,” Richardson said in an e-mail. “We do not have a positive ID but the decedent is believed to be a Summit County resident.”
