DENVER—A 47-year-old Denver man has been sentenced to life in prison for distributing crack-cocaine and other federal charges.
The U.S. attorney’s office says Ismael Gonzales-Arenas was convicted of gun, drug and immigration charges last year. Authorities say the sentencing didn’t take place until Monday because of issues concerning his prior convictions and the Armed Career Criminal Act.
Authorities say Gonzales-Arenas distributed crack cocaine from his Denver home from Sept. 1, 2003, to May 28, 2004. They say he was on probation for a drug offense the day he was arrested.
Gonzales-Arenas was also convicted of possession of a firearm by an armed career criminal and maintaining a drug-involved premises. Authorities say he was deported from the U.S. in 1999 after his conviction for first-degree sexual assault in Oregon.
