The aspens were quaking above a grassy carpet of bluebells and paintbrush, as Beth Melling talked about the new townhouse where she’s entertaining grandchildren this summer, a mile from Central City Opera House. “We were done with yard work,” she said. “Once we got inside these and saw the workmanship, we were so surprised. I wish we’d done this years ago.” You’ll see why today, in an opening for three new decorated homes at Prospectors Run in Central City, at prices from $219,500.
You’ll get a chance to build your own ballpark-style bratwurst or dog, and register for a drawing for four Club Level Rockies-vs.-Dodgers tickets that’ll be given away this weekend. Marketing director Rita Lee (she was writing another sale as we talked) says some Prospectors Run buyers are reaching for a low-priced second resort home, while others are after a permanent retirement residence. “But they’re all placing themselves between two kinds of fun that only Central City has,” Lee added. “On the one side, you get an ever-better range of casinos and other attractions, and on the other, the great scenery.”
For the Mellings (with 16 grandkids) Prospectors Run was a chance to get huge space for family gatherings at remarkably low cost – so low that they bought two units and had builder Bob Patterson custom-build a plan over 4,000 feet. Each home has low-maintenance features offering a lock-n-leave lifestyle, along with amazing finishes.
…Including in a ‘Lincoln’ plan for $324,900 (it’ll be on view in the Parade of Homes next month) — 2,166 sq. feet, with views of the aspens showcased from two sides of its great room, with a luxury master with 5-piece bath, two guest bedrooms each with their own baths, and a 2-car attached garage – plenty of room for an ATV. Included is a walk-out with hot tub – along with hardwood floors, art niches, tiered ceilings, great fireplace, Travertine backsplashes, kitchen with GE Profile stainless appliances, and an eye-catching circular staircase.
You’ll also see lots of summer activity in Central City: a major remodeling of the streetscape around Century Casino (the Mellings favorite) and expansions at Fortune Valley and Johnny Z’s – along with the nearby scenic mining towns, and a fishing lake only Central City residents use. When the Mellings saw the tax rate for living at Prospectors Run (currently about $650/year) they thought it was a misprint. Prospectors Run is 40 minutes from Denver; from I-70 take Central City Parkway through Central City (Spring St.) to Eureka, turn left, watch for yellow signs.
