FORT COLLINS, Colo.—Horsetooth Reservoir in northern Colorado is nearly full and its highest level since 2004, thanks to runoff from this winter’s big snows and recent rains.
U.S. Bureau of Reclamation spokeswoman Kara Lamb tells the Coloradoan that the reservoir west of Fort Collins likely will be close to full. She says she expects the water to keep rising over the weekend.
All the water in Horsetooth means more water for the farmers and others whose water rights are more junior. Those with older water rights get their share first.
Farmers with rights to the reservoir water haven’t been taking much of it because of the recent rainfall.
