Never mind an ankle injury that kept him off the Rapids’ front line for several weeks — Colorado striker Omar Cummings on Monday was named to Major League Soccer’s all-star team by New York Red Bulls coach Hans Backe.

Cummings, a first-time all-star, has two goals and two assists in 13 games this season. A year ago, his 14 goals led the Rapids.

The MLS all-stars play Manchester United of the English Premier League on July 27 at 25,000-seat Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J.

Red Bulls a man down.

New York defender Rafa Marquez, also named an MLS all-star, will not be in the Red Bulls’ lineup Wednesday night when they play the Rapids in Commerce City, Backe told the New York Post on Monday.

Marquez has been out because of a hamstring injury he suffered June 25, when he starred for Mexico in a Gold Cup championship win over Team USA. He also won’t play for the MLS all-stars vs. Manchester United.
