Lakewood police are searching for three Hispanic men in their 20s who they believe shot and killed a man in an apartment building in the 1800 block of Kendall Street about 7 p.m. today.

Police said the men were last seen in a champagne or gold-colored SUV, possibly a Chevy Suburban, with the letter D and numbers 2 and 7 somewhere in the license plate.

Police spokeswoman Andrea Joo told 9News four men were inside a third-floor apartment when the shooting occurred.

When officers arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound in the apartment and transported him to St. Anthony Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police do not yet know whether the victim lived in the building and are interviewing neighbors to try to gain additional information about the suspects and their motive.

The victim’s name has not yet been released because officers are trying to contact his relatives.

Police are asking anyone with information to call the department at 303-987-7111.
