Organizers of “The Show,” a massive youth baseball tournament scheduled to begin in the Vail Valley July 24, suddenly canceled the event Tuesday.

According to a press release, the Vail Valley Partnership and the Western Eagle County Metropolitan Recreation District received an e-mail Tuesday morning that the event promoters “canceled their tournament this week due to unforeseen circumstances with the Optimist Club. The club is the oversight nonprofit for the tournament series.”

At the time of the cancellation, 314 youth baseball teams had registered to come to the Vail Valley from July 24-Aug. 7, bringing more than 6,000 estimated participants and spectators. The event was recruited by WECMRD and the Vail Valley Partnership over the past year.

“I can’t tell you how saddened I am to have to advise you and the community of this,” said John Conner, manager of The Show.
