A 70-year-old man is sitting in the El Paso County Justice Center tonight after he allegedly hit a roadway worker in a construction zone with his car mirror.
Officials booked Harrison Wayne Holmes, of Colorado Springs, on charges of assault, two counts of criminal attempted vehicular assault, reckless driving and failure to obey instructions of flag person.
An El Paso County Department of Transportation worker called deputies about 3:35 p.m. to report a reckless driver in the 26000 block of Judge Orr Road.
The worker told deputies that a man driving a gold 2002 Chevrolet Malibu had argued with a construction worker over the lengthy wait and then sped past the worker “and attempted to strike him with his vehicle,” according to a news release.
Other roadway workers tried to stop the driver, but driver wove around them and hit a 45-year-old female worker with his driver’s side mirror.
A witness followed the driver in his car, and deputies arrested him near Peyton Highway and Spencer Road.
Medics transported the injured worker to St. Francis Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police did not know her condition Wednesday night.
