A Colorado Springs man shot a deer on his property with a pellet gun and the animal was hit by a car as it ran off, police said.

The incident happened at about 1:50 p.m. Wednesday in the 1000 block of Fuller Road, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department crime blotter.

The property owner “was trying to move a deer off of his property” and shot it with a .22 caliber CO2 pellet rifle, police said.

The man told police he shot the animal with a pellet round and the deer was then struck by a passing vehicle. The deer died in the collision.

The Colorado Division of Wildlife responded to the scene and is investigating the incident.
