The metro area will continue to dry out today, as sunny skies and temperatures in the high 90s settle in for the weekend.

Skies will remain clear and sunny, with a high temperature around 97 degrees, short of the record 102 degrees reached this day in 2005, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures in the metro area have not climbed to 100 degrees this summer, and the hottest day on record was July 4, with a high of 99 degrees.

The average high for today is 89 degrees.

Temperatures will drop tonight with a high around 67 degrees.

The reprieve won’t last long, as clear skies return on Saturday bringing with them a high around 96 degrees.

On Sunday, temperatures will peak at about 91 degrees, with a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Cloud cover will carry into the evening as temperatures drop into the mid 60s.
