AURORA, Colo.—Police say a confrontation between an Aurora plainclothes officer and a suspected extortionist has left the suspect dead.
Police spokesman Robert Friel says a meeting Saturday evening between the officer and the suspect in a parking lot on East Colfax Avenue turned into a physical confrontation
He says in a statement that the officer wound up shooting the suspect several times.
The suspect, who was not identified, was declared dead at a hospital.
The Denver Post reported that about a dozen people, possibly family members, gathered near the scene about 10 p.m.
Fernando Soltero says he was in a nearby auto parts store when he heard three shots.
He tells the Post he went outside and saw a bleeding man slumped in the driver’s seat of his car.
