A former Colorado Springs police officer facing allegations of abusing children is now accused of sexually assaulting 22 victims — up from six.

Prosecutors added new victims and more than doubled the felony sex assault counts against Joshua Carrier, 30, at an appearance Tuesday morning in 4th Judicial District Court, raising the counts against him from 78 to 189.

Prosecutor Andrew Bryant said he couldn’t provide details of the new allegations.

Court documents in the case have been sealed, but a parent told The Gazette that Carrier, a former school resource officer and volunteer wrestling coach, abused her son under the pretense of examining him for ringworm.

Carrier, a seven-year police veteran, resigned in June rather than fight his termination.
