When Tony McNally placed a help-wanted ad recently, he was surprised by the response. More accurately, he was surprised at how few people responded.
“We had maybe 10 people call,” said McNally, the dining room manager at the Grouse Mountain Grill in Beaver Creek. “We weren’t overwhelmed at all.”
When the restaurant placed an ad for help last year, McNally said he received more than 30 e-mails asking about the jobs.
Make no mistake — the local job market isn’t anything like it was in 2007, when employers hired just about anyone with a pulse and a place to live. Back then, employer were also spending lots of money on the paperwork to get visas for seasonal workers.
