Boise State football coach Chris Petersen says the Mountain West won’t allow the Broncos to wear their blue jerseys for home conference games. It was part of the school’s agreement to join the league, and Petersen says he thinks the requirement is ridiculous. League commissioner Craig Thompson said that other coaches thought wearing the blue uniforms on the blue turf at Bronco Stadium gave Boise State a competitive advantage.

BSU has worn all blue uniforms at home for several years and has a 77-2 home record since 1999.

Petersen says they’ll still wear blue for nonconference home games. The rule doesn’t apply to schools that have green uniforms and play on green fields, such as Colorado State and Hawaii. Boise State’s first Mountain West home game is Oct. 22 vs. Air Force.
