DENVER—Former University of Colorado at Denver instructor Dave Young is Colorado’s new Democratic state representative.

He is replacing former Greeley Democratic Rep. Jim Riesberg, who is now the state’s new insurance commissioner. Young was sworn in Thursday by Colorado Chief Justice Michael Bender.

Young was a senior instructor at CU-Denver’s Information and Learning Technologies program before being appointed by a vacancy committee to Riesberg’s seat.

Young is a Colorado native who earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Colorado State University in 1975 and a master’s degree in Information and Learning Technologies from CU-Denver in 2000.

His wife and 91-year-old mother attended the swearing in ceremony at the Capitol.
