DENVER—A new 4.4-megawatt solar power system at Denver International Airport is expected to supply the airport with about 7,000 megawatt-hours of electricity each year.
Gov. John Hickenlooper, Denver Mayor Michael Hancock and others attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the system Thursday.
The airport now has three solar array systems that airport aviation manager Kim Day says produce about 6 percent of the airport’s total power requirements.
Constellation Energy built the new array and owns and maintains it. The airport will buy electricity produced by it under a 20-year power purchase agreement.
Oak Leaf Energy Partners originally developed the project. Quanta Services Intermountain Electric installed it, and Yingli Green Energy supplied about 19,000 solar panels for it.
