A Jefferson County family might have lost their home, but firefighters saved their turtle this afternoon.
The home in the 1100 block of West Rowland Drive in Ken Caryl was engulfed in fire and heavy smoke arrived when trucks arrived at about 3:20 p.m., said West Metro Fire Rescue spokeswoman Michelle French.
No one was home at the time of the fire, but fire fighters rescued a pet turtle named Bubbles, she said.
The turtle was uninjured.
Investigators are looking into the cause of the fire.
