A house caught fire on Wednesday afternoon after it was struck by lightning.

Lightning struck 1944 Kodiak Drive around 4:30 p.m., causing the attic of the roof to catch fire and flames to shoot from the roof, according to Sunny Smaldino, the Colorado Springs Fire Department spokeswoman.

“They (the family living at the house) said they saw the light and then saw sparks from their home,” Smaldino said.

Firefighters had to fight the fire from outside of the house after the ceiling collapsed, she said.

No one was injured in the blaze.
