ASPEN, Colo.—Pitkin County commissioners are joining Redstone-area residents in opposing water rights on the Crystal River that could divert water for new reservoirs and canals.

For several decades, the plan included reservoir rights that would flood Redstone. Those plans have been modified to provide a smaller reservoir near Marble.

The rights are held by the Colorado River Water Conservation District and West Divide Water Conservancy District. Those rights have been renewed since 1958 when they were issued by the U.S. Congress, according to the Aspen Daily News.
