Aurora police are launching an internal investigation into the officer-involved shooting that left one man dead.
On Saturday, Juan Contreras was shot and killed by an Aurora police officer in the 12100 block of E. Colfax Avenue, during an extortion investigation, according to a news release from the Aurora Police Department.
A Tactical Review Board will investigate the case as well as the Arapahoe County District Attorney’s Office, to determine whether any officers involved violated department policy.
The review will take several months and will be released to the public after the District Attorney reviews the report.
The officer who fired his duty weapon is not being identified at this time. As is standard procedure, the officer will be placed on administrative leave.
