The U.S. Forest Service terminated a contract with Aero Union on Friday after the company failed to meet inspection requirements on the six air tankers it was providing during wildfire season.
The company, based in Sacramento, Calif., had an exclusive-use contract with the Forest Service, which used the tankers to fight forest fires across the country, including Colorado, according to the Forest Service.
The Forest Service signed with Aero Union in 2008. This April, Aero Union told the Forest Service that the Federal Aviation Administration determined that the company was not in compliance with its mandated structural inspection program.
The Forest Service said it has enough aircraft support to finish this year’s fire season.
