Paddle power

Asian culture comes alive today during the 11th annual Dragon Boat Festival at Denver’s Sloan’s Lake. The festival’s colorful opening ceremony begins at 10 a.m. and includes a race-team parade, 75-foot dragon dance and much more. Performances, food, an Asian marketplace and the educational “Gateway to Asia” are festival highlights. 1700 Sheridan Blvd. 10 a.m.-7 p.m. today and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday.

Jazz in the park

The Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra is jamming from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in City Park. Take advantage of this free concert series before it ends, as the last City Park Jazz show of the season — featuring Chris Daniels and the Kings — is next Sunday. City Park Pavilion on Ferril Lake, Colorado Boulevard at East 17th Avenue.

This weekend is German Fest Denver, hosted by the Colorado Folk Arts Council. German food, beer, folk dancing and music characterize this festive event at the T.E.V. Edelweiss Pavilion in Morrison. Tickets are $15 at the door. Kids 12 and younger get in free.
