The Denver Outlaws blew a two-goal fourth-quarter lead and lost 10-9 to the Boston Cannons on Saturday night in front of 7,804 fans at Invesco Field at Mile High in a Major Lacrosse League game.
Drew Westervelt completed a hat trick to give the Outlaws an 8-6 lead early in the fourth quarter, but Boston’s Brad Ross scored a power-play two-pointer to tie the score. The Outlaws took a 9-8 lead with 3:59 to play as Brendan Mundorf scored to get his own hat trick, but the Cannons got back-to-back goals from Max Quinzani and Kevin Buchanan. The Outlaws got possession with 54 seconds left but turned it over 17 seconds later, and Boston ran out the clock. Denver has lost a franchise-worst four straight.
Stewart defeats Anderson.
Incoming University of Colorado golfer Alex Stewart defeated Amy Anderson, an amateur who made a big splash at the U.S. Women’s Open at The Broadmoor this month, and one other top-10 seed to advance to the finals of the Women’s TRANS National Amateur Championship at Powder Horn Golf Course in Sheridan, Wyo.
Stewart, the No. 30 seed, will face No. 21 seed Julie Yang in a 36-hole final today. Stewart is transferring to CU from Purdue.
