Not that outfielder Seth Smith isn’t exactly a fixture in the Rockies’ lineup against left-handers, but his second-inning at-bat Monday night against Cole Hamels was the first of Smith’s career against the Phillies lefty. He made it a memorable one, hitting a two-run homer to center field. The home run was Smith’s first against a left-hander since Aug. 21, 2009, when he victimized San Francisco’s Jeremy Affeldt. Smith has 10 RBIs against lefties this season after accounting for four in 2010.
Go figure.
Ty Wigginton’s stolen base that preceded Smith’s home run was his sixth this season in seven attempts. Dexter Fowler has six in 14 attempts.
Beasts from the East.
The Phillies went into the game 12-7 vs. the NL West. Nothing out of the ordinary there. The Men of Manuel were a league-best 74-42 against the West since 2008.
