A pickup truck ran through a stop sign this morning in Aurora, and came to a late stop in the intersection, before being hit by a Jeep, police said.

The driver of the Ford F-150 pickup truck and her 4-year-old child were taken to a local hospital, said Lt. Charles DeShazer, an Aurora Police Department spokesman.

The crash happened at about 9:50 a.m. at the intersection of Tower Road and East Louisiana Avenue, DeShazer said.

Two traffic officers who were working the area watched the crash unfold.

The truck was westbound on Louisiana approaching Tower at about 30 mph when it slowed to about 15 mph but failed to stop at a stop sign, DeShazer said.

After going through the sign, the driver stopped the truck in the intersection. A Jeep heading southbound on Tower entered the intersection and hit the truck.

Two children — a 6-year-old girl and a 4-year-old girl — were riding in the bed of the truck when the collision occurred.

The 4-year-old was thrown from the bed. The 6-year-old scampered through a back sliding glass window into the rear seat of the truck’s cabin after impact, DeShazer said.

The Ford’s driver and the 4-year-old were taken to a local hospital. The 6-year-old and an infant boy — who was properly restrained in the front seat — were not hurt.

The driver of the Jeep was not injured.

Police said the driver of the F-150 faces numerous possible driving infractions including running a stop sign and not having the two older children properly restrained.

Aurora Human Services will be notified of the incident and the mother could face possible child neglect or child endangerment charges, DeShazer said.

The name of the pickup driver was not released.

Further details on the injuries were not available.
