COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Colorado Springs police have identified the man killed in an auto parts store last week as Joaquin Paniagua (wah-KEEN’ pah-nee-AH-gwah) of Colorado Springs.

Paniagua was fatally shot on July 27. Another person was found wounded in the parking lot.

Sixty-year-old Ernest Schmidt, also known as 47-year-old Edward Coffey, has been arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, aggravated robbery and second-degree kidnapping. His wife, 35-year-old Dawn Morgan, is being held on suspicion of being an accessory to first-degree murder.

Paniagua was one of four people killed in three unrelated shootings on the same day.

A suspect in the other fatal shootings was found dead Saturday of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a police standoff. Police say 24-year-old Michael Arangio was suspected of killing three teenagers.
