DENVER—An attorney opposing a Douglas County school voucher program says the program should be struck down because it violates the state’s public school finance act

Attorney Michael McCarthy said in his opening statement that many of the schools participating in the program are religious in nature and improperly entangle religion in public school finance.

According to the Denver Post ( ), attorney James Lyons told the judge the program is religion-neutral because parents and students decide where to spend the voucher money.

A Denver judge is considering whether to stop Douglas County from paying to send some of its students to private schools.
