DES MOINES, Iowa—A United Airlines flight to Denver was delayed by mechanical problems for nearly a day in Des Moines.
Des Moines television station KCCI first reported ( ) that Flight 516 was scheduled to leave at 1:18 p.m. Sunday with 126 passengers.
United spokesman Charlie Hobart (HOH’-bahrt) said Tuesday that the hydraulic system wasn’t working right during pre-flight checks. Mechanics were unsuccessful in their efforts to fix the Airbus A320.
Hobart says United workers apologized to passengers as they were given hotel and food vouchers and asked to return the next day.
Hobart says the plane was finally fixed Monday and left Des Moines at 11:10 a.m.
He says he doesn’t know how many of the 126 booked passengers were aboard, nor why a replacement plane wasn’t sent to Des Moines.
