ASPEN, Colo.—The organizer of an effort to name the eastern peak of Mount Sopris after the late John Denver says she has support from more than 2,800 people.
J.P. McDaniel of Littleton says she will send application documents to the U.S. Board of Geographical Names on Tuesday.
According to the Aspen Times ( ), McDaniel is only asking the federal board to attach Denver’s name to the eastern peak of Mt. Sopris.
Denver was killed in 1997 when the experimental aircraft he was piloting crashed into the ocean near Pacific Grove, Calif.
