A shooting that left three Colorado Springs teenagers dead last week was the result of a road rage incident, the city’s police said today.

Wayne Fix, 19, his brother, Aaron Fix, 16, and friend Austin Howse, 16, were shot to death while in a sport-utility vehicle in the Mira Loma neighborhood at about 10:30 p.m. on July 27.

Details about the circumstances that lead up to the shooting, however, were not released. Colorado Springs police said Friday that it appeared a dispute started somewhere else.

Their alleged killer, 24-year-old Michael Arangio, committed suicide with a gunshot to his head rather than surrender to SWAT officers outside his Colorado Springs apartment Saturday.

An autopsy showed Howse and Wayne Fix were shot several times, and Aaron Fix died from a single gunshot.

Services for all three were held today.

At the time of his death, Arangio was wanted on a warrant alleging first-degree murder, a charge that implies premeditation.

He’d had a recent run-in with police. Arangio was arrested by Colorado Springs police on May 14 and charged with felony menacing with a weapon after a confrontation with a stranger in a church parking lot. He was released on $4,000 bond.
