DENVER—CenturyLink has shed about 400 Colorado jobs since acquiring Denver-based Qwest Communications International Inc. in April.

The Denver Post ( ) reports the telecommunications companies employed more than 7,400 in Colorado before their merger closed. CenturyLink spokesman John Hall says the figure now stands at more than 7,000.

Hall says staffing levels are driven by business needs.

Although the Colorado workforce is shrinking, chief executive Glen Post says the company is adding “front-line sales professionals across the country.”

CenturyLink employs about 49,000 nationwide.
