GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—Noble Energy says it is encountering a dangerous gas in the majority of its Piceance (PEE’-ance) Basin natural gas wells.

The Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission says it is looking into reports the wells are releasing hydrogen sulfide.

Hydrogen sulfide can be lethal at high levels and can cause headaches and other health problems at lower concentrations.

According to the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel ( ), the commission says Noble may have failed to use biocides in wells it drilled.

Noble communications director Stephen Flaherty says workers received safety training about it and Noble uses biocides to eliminate it.
