The drivers involved in a fatal crash Wednesday night west of Ault have been identified.
Colorado State Patrol Trooper Heather Cobler said Jackie Smith, 67, of Greeley, was driving his minivan north on Weld County Road 31 around 6 p.m., when he failed to stop at the stop sign at Colo. 14.
Roberto Mendoza-Armenta, 47, of Eaton, was traveling east on Colo. 14, and broadsided the minivan as it crossed the intersection.
Smith died at the scene, and Mendoza-Armenta was taken to North Colorado Medical Center with moderate injuries, Cobler said.
The crash remains under investigation, but troopers do not believe alcohol, drugs or excessive speed contributed to the crash. Both drivers were wearing seat belts, Cobler said.
