Colorado National Speedway is the first NASCAR Whelen All-American Series-sanctioned track to be the beneficiary of the NASCAR Green Clean Air tree planting program, with 70 trees scheduled to be planted today around the track in the small town of Dacono after today’s ceremony at 1 p.m. (Most competitors, administrators and spectators say CNS is in Erie, but it’s just inside the Dacono city line after taking the Erie exit off Interstate 25.)
“We are excited to see this environmental program become a part of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series. With it we are literally taking root in the Dacono community,” George Silbermann, NASCAR vice president, regional and touring series, said in a release.
ON THE MOVE: PAUL MENARD
Playoffs within his reach
Menard won his first career Sprint Cup race at Indianapolis last week to improve a series-most five spots in the standings, to 14th, and in position to qualify for the playoffs with the 12th and final spot. In the new Chase format, the top 10 drivers automatically qualify for the playoffs after 26 of 36 races, and the final two spots will go to the drivers with the most wins from No. 11 to 20.
No. 11 Denny Hamlin, No. 16 David Ragan, No. 21 Brad Keselowski, No. 26 Regan Smith and No. 28 Jamie McMurray all also have one victory and are vying for the final two Chase spots.
