NEW YORK — Braves pitcher Jair Jurrjens was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday because of a strained right knee. The all-star right-hander is 0-1 in his last four starts, allowing 16 earned runs over 23 innings. He had surgery on the same knee in October to repair a torn meniscus.

Left-hander Mike Minor was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett to take Jurrjens’ spot on the roster.

Astros demote Happ

HOUSTON — The Astros optioned starting left-hander J.A. Happ to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Happ, who came to Houston in the trade that sent Roy Oswalt to Philadelphia in July 2010, is 4-14 this season and has struggled with a 6.26 ERA in 22 starts.

Weaver to serve suspension

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Jered Weaver dropped his appeal of a six-game suspension, and the Angels’ ace will miss an upcoming series vs. the Yankees. The major-league ERA leader, suspended for throwing a pitch over the head of a Detroit batter, is now scheduled to make his next start next Saturday at Toronto.

The Padres placed outfielder Chris Denorfia on the DL because of a strained right hamstring and recalled outfielder Blake Tekotte, less than 48 hours after optioning him to Double-A San Antonio.

• Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre will miss an additional three weeks after aggravating the strained left hamstring that landed him on the DL in late July.
